Remedial Massage is the direct manipulation of soft tissues of the body. It aids in the healing and repair processes, it restores structural balance and prevents a recurrence of the problem.
Remedial Massage can help to heal an injury and it is also extremely useful in preventing the injury from re-occurring. This is done by using specialised massage techniques to manipulate  soft tissues of the body.

Remedial Massage can help with an enormous range of complaints such as relieving stress and tension and there are many techniques that are used as tools to effectively release muscle tension or trigger points for most areas of the body.

Testimonial

“I recently had a pregnancy massage with Esti. I like a strong massage, and I find it frustrating that when I am pregnant I either get denied a massage or get a soft feathery rubbing. I went to see Esti and she gave me a nice relaxing treatment with the benefits of a good therapeutic remedial massage. The treatment was what I was looking for and I left feeling blissed out”

A Shiatsu massage is a full-body massage, but where your practitioner starts and stops will vary.

Different protocols are used depending on what's going on with each individual.

Shiatsu practitioners may use their thumbs, fingers, elbows, and knees to relieve clients' tension and pain points.

Depending on your physical constitution and general energy levels, the therapist will use various techniques including "gentle stretching, holding, pressing with palms, thumbs, fingers, elbows, and knees, and when appropriate, more dynamic rotations and stretches.

Open communication between practitioner and client is helpful. There can be areas of more intensity. As with all massage, the client wants to be able to relax and breathe through the work.

Shiatsu, literally meaning “finger pressure,” is a Japanese massage modality that was invented by Tokujiro Namikoshi during the 1920s. It is based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and is considered a form of acupressure massage.

Shiatsu is historically believed to have been derived from a traditional Japanese massage style known as Amna, which is itself based on Tuina, which is a form of traditional Chinese massage.

Testimonials

"After months of struggling with plantar fasciitis the Bowen technique made a huge difference to the pain I was feeling in my heel. A few days after my first treatment, I was able to wear a pair of heels to lunch and after my second treatment I am ready to try a short run. This is after 7 weeks of no running. I highly recommend this treatment."

The Bowen technique is a non-invasive soft tissue therapy. It deliver signals to the nervous system at specific locations (on muscles, tendons, ligaments, or nerves), and the body responds in its own time, within its vital capacity. While there are a few, very specific situations in which a particular 'procedure' is contraindicated, Bowen Technique is appropriate for people of all ages, in all degrees of health. The Bowen Technique moves are gentle, but purposeful, and can be done through light clothing. Between each set of moves, the practitioner pauses for as many minutes as are needed for the client's body to begin responding and the nervous system begins to adjust the tension level in the body.

Rather than focusing on a single complaint, Bowen Technique addresses the entire body, by restoring balance via the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The ANS controls over 80% of bodily functions and is very susceptible to external stressors. Most people today live in a constant state of high stress and sympathetic ANS over-stimulation (fight, flight or freeze mode). Healing can occur only after the ANS shifts from sympathetic to parasympathetic dominance (rest, relax and repair mode). Bowen Technique enables that shift. During a session, the client often drops into deep relaxation or falls asleep, and loud peristalsis may be heard. Both of these changes are indications of a profound release from stress and a shift towards parasympathetic influence. This shift could explain, in part, the common observation that a Bowen Technique session seems to reactivate the recovery process in situations where healing from trauma, sickness or surgery has stalled or reached a plateau.

Reflexology treats all the organs of the body through the feet, but not only this – it clears blocked energy pathways throughout the body enabling organs and glands to function properly. By putting pressure on particular points in the foot, the supply of blood, as well as the functioning of the nervous system is improved.

Reflexology is believed to heal a number of illnesses ranging from back pain to migraine to sleep disorders. Some people with sports injuries believe that it helped them to recover quicker. Arthritis sufferers found it has eased their pain. Sinus sufferers maintain that it offers instant relief from congestion. It helps normalise blood pressure, restore hormonal imbalances and is beneficial for circulation, digestion, and respiratory problems.

There are approximately 7,000 nerve endings in the human foot and each of them are a reflex point that corresponds to a body part. Reflexologists use special finger and thumb manipulations to stimulate these reflex points and they know exactly which area of the foot corresponds to which body part by learning the following Reflexology chart.

Stress is now believed to be a major cause of physical illness so by reducing tension and improving blood and nerve supply, this alternative therapy contributes to better overall health for everyone.
